Weakley County Juvenile Judge Jim Bradberry
Today, we welcome Weakley County Juvenile Judge Jim Bradberry, who will offer a view from the bench on what he calls “Families in Crisis.” Judge Bradberry, who is also an accomplished lawyer, has overcome the disability of blindness to build a successful 27-year legal career. A graduate of Gleason High School, Judge Bradberry is also a graduate of Michigan State University. He earned his law degree from Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He resides in Dresden with his 11-year old grandson. There are 98 courts with juvenile court jurisdictions in Tennessee’s 95 counties, with a total of 112 judges, 34 referees and 350 staff members. Juveniles are those people under the age of 18 charged with crimes, who have not been transferred to adult court. Juvenile Courts seek to protect the needs of children, families and communities. Welcome Judge Bradberry!

Don Hutson Reports on BMH-UC’s Focus
Last week, Rotarian Don Hutson talked about the “focus” of Baptist Memorial Hospital to the community’s health care needs and to it’s economy. Don is Administrator and CEO of the local hospital, following his retirement as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army in 2006. Don spoke about the three C’s of collaboration, commitment and continuous improvement as the ways the local hospital maintains its community focus. He said the vision of the local hospital and its staff is to be the “provider of choice for quality, patient-focused, health care.” Using a PowerPoint presentation, Don noted the 37 physicians on the local hospital staff, including Rotarian Dr. John Hale, who is president of the local medical staff. He pointed out the hospital’s ability to recruit two new doctors to Union City and plans for three more to locate here before the year is out. Don spoke about Dr. Gore’s new oncology clinic now under construction on Miles Avenue, the new liptrotripsy unit used to blast kidney stones, and a new 1.5 Tesla MRI unit and CT Scanner. He said the hospital pumps about $74 million into the local economy annually. Hutson concluded his talk by talking about the community involvement of hospital employees and their commitment to patient care. He also mentioned numerous awards the local hospital has earned in recent months and emphasized the compassion and caring the hospital staff exhibits daily. He asked Rotarians to “be our ambassadors” as we talk up BMH-UC in the community and to always choose the local hospital for our medical treatment.
