Ashton Jennings’ View of Entrepreneurship
Last week, Rotarians heard from 23-year old Ashton Jennings, who is making quite a name for himself as an up and coming entrepreneur in the world of NASCAR and event-planning. Ashton, the son of G. T. and Linda Jennings, and the grandson of former Union City Rotarian Leon “Shine” Jessup, has turned his passion for motorsports, competition, and corporate-event planning into two thriving businesses in the North Carolina area. In conjunction with his younger brother, Andrew, and other family members and partners, Ashton runs Premier Racing, Inc., and Field of Steel, which caters to the motorbike crowd. “I was hanging out with “Hell’s Angels” last weekend,” Ashton mused as he began his talk—a reference to North Carolina’s largest motorbike event of the year, which Ashton’s company staged. Admitting he was not formally educated in the business world, Ashton is having to learn those things on the job. Ashton got hooked on the motorsports world while a youngster, watching his father’s work with the racing side of Goodyear. “It’s better to be lucky that good,” Ashton said. “I started out managing an Elvin impersonator and now have gigs with 10,000 bikers and such rock bands as Foghat, Lynrd Skynrd, and the Kentucky Headhunters headlinging the event for huge corporate sponsors.” During Q&A, Ashton was asked what ideas he might have in mind to help promote Union City. He promised to give it some serious consideration. Thanks Ashton for you insightful talk and it was good to see “Shine” once again at Rotary.
