Next week, Rotary member and Business Man Roger Williams of Williams Sausage is expected to give us a brief history and point out some goals for the future of his company.

Roger was born in Obion County in 1959. He attended elementary school at Woodland Mills, graduated from OCCHS in 1977. He earned his B.S. Degree in Accounting at the University of Tennessee at Martin, and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1987.

He is a member of the Obion County School Board, Chairman of Obion County School Board, member of Union City Rotary Club, and Past President 2004-05. He is a member of Antioch Cumberland Presbyterian Church, member of Obion County Chamber of Commerce, and past president of Obion County United way.

Roger is also a Paul Harris Fellow in the local club, and Chairman of Rotary Scholarship Committee.

He is married to the former Juli Jones, they have three children, Lesley, Senior at Auburn University, Emily, Sophomore at Rhodes University and Brent, who is a sophomore at OCCHS.

Last Week, UT Martin’s Head Basketball Coach Bret Campbell held the spotlight as guest speaker, and began by introducing his two main assistants, Jason James and Lester Hudson, to whom he said were two of the main reasons the UTM Program is enjoying such success. He also introduced Jay Bone , who has contributed much to the program.

He then introduced MJ Brown, a familiar face to the UC faithful along with Lester Hudson, who Coach Campbell said flirted with the NBA last year, but decided to come back to UTM for one more year.

Coach Campbell spoke of two new players he has added to the squad, 6’10" Domaneek Pondos and Eric Matthews, 6’9", Juniors to give the team post presence, which the team has not had in the past.

Coach said with the added players the staff has recruited, he truly expects to contend for an OVC championship this year. "After struggling last year, with only two division I players on the squad, we still had a very successful year and expect things to pick up in the near future, and our goal this year in to get into the NCAA Tournament" he said.

He mentioned the polls this year has UTM or Murray State, as the No. 1-2 teams in the OVC. Some polls pick Murray, and some polls pick UTM, "so pre-season expectations are very high for the UTM Squad" he said. He also brought up the schedule that the team has this year, including some big-name schools, such as UT Knoxville and Southern Cal.

The fact that our size and our depth has much improved we can compete with anyone in the country he said.

Coach Campbell ended by encouraging the UC Fans to show up as many times as possible this year and he promises to show them some Quality Basketball.
