Last Week, "The Sausage Man" himself, Roger Williams, entertained Rotarians with a history and future plans for a growing local company know as "Williams Sausage".
Roger began by saying the founder of the company Harold Loyd Williams who passed away about 10 years ago would have been celebrating 50 years of success in the sausage business this year. He then introduced his guests, his mother Hazel Williams, who was also in on the founding of the company, his wife Juli and his brother David Williams, who is a partner in the business.
Roger said in early years his father worked for the former Reelfoot Packing Company, and from there went into the military. While there he met a man by the name of Albert Parton, who was part of the Parton Sausage Family out of Kentucky. After returning from the military, Harold could not get his old job back and Mr. Parton invited him to join the Parton Family Business, which he did. After a while he and Hazel bought out the Parton interest in the business and began what is now known as "Williams Sausage"on a small plot of ground owned by Hazel’z family.
"In 1959 Gibson County Electric featured the plant in their magazine, because of having to run special service to the Williams Plant, and this was big news in that day in time" he said.
Roger spoke of the building expansions which have taken place at the plant over the years and went into plans the plant has for the future.
