ROTARY INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT 6760

District Governor                                                                               International President

Larry Boyd                                                                                                   Dong Kurn Lee

Brentwood, Tennessee                                                                                     Seoul, Korea

Today, let’s make welcome some hard working individuals, who spend a tremendous amount of time and energy keeping tornado fans both entertained and excited, as we hear from both the U.C. Girls and Boy’s Basketball Coaches, along with their Assistants, Senior players and Senior cheerleaders.

The boy’s coach, Shane Sisco, beginning his 10th year at the head of the program, is sporting an over-all record of 224-64, and as we all know last season finished undefeated winning yet another State Crown for the local program.

Shane is a 1988 graduate of U.C. High School, earning a BS Degree from UTM in 1992. He has been teaching and coaching for the past 15 years. He is married to Stephanie and they have 2 sons, Will and Wes, and he has a stepdaughter, Core Ann.

Coach Chandler is starting his 6th year as the head of the Girl’s program. While at Union City he has coached boy’s basketball, girl’s basketball, girl’s softball and golf.

He is a graduate of Kenton High School, earned his BS Degree from UTM in 1990, Maters Degree in 1998 form Trevecca College.

He is married to Rhonda and they have three children Ryan, Erin and Nolan.

Next week, Dr. Michael D. Calfee, who specializes in Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine will visit and enlighten us on "Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repairs in 2008"

Dr. Calfee is from Huntingdon, TN, and was educated at The University of Tennessee, Campbell Clinic, Foot & Ankle Fellowship, University of Tennessee, Campbell Clinic, Orthopedic Surgery Residence, Baptist Memorial Hospital, Transitional Internship, University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Memphis, and University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Majoring in Biology and Religious Studies.

He began practice at Hamilton Medical Center as an Orthopedic Surgeon in Dalton, Georgia in 2000, became associated in Orthopedics & Sports Medicine there in the same year, went on as a Partner and Staff Surgeon at Bone & Joint Specialist in Paris, TN in 2004. Now he is Sole Proprietor and Staff Surgeon at Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Huntingdon.

He is a member of American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Medical Association and Tennessee Medical Association.

Last Week, we had the privilege of a visit from our District Governor, Larry Boyd and his lovely wife Roxanne.

One of the Governor’s first comments was to compliment the local club on it’s Scholarship Program, and he was proud to be here and be a part of that and also he mentioned the Promethean Program, which the club sponsors, saying one of his personal priorities was the literacy programs for young children, going on to quote our International President, Dong Kurn Lee as saying "we must protect the most precious resources we have in our communities, and that is our children", he said. He went on to say that D.K. said around the world every day 30,000 children under the age of 5 years die of curable diseases. He said these things are not happening in third world countries alone, they are happening right here in our own country.

He mentioned some things we can do every day to protect our youth, such as Smoke Detectors, Head-wear protection for children and the lack of child restraints in our automobiles, saying that 71% of child mortality incidents could have been prevented by the use of child restraint systems properly.

He encouraged the education of the people in our community to these things and by doing so we reduce the child mortality in our community and country, and also encourage the end of health and hunger problems, along with promoting clean water and improved literacy programs here and abroad.
