Today, West Tennessee has a new Semi-Pro Football Franchise, today we get details on that new program.
Jackson Tennessee is the home to this franchise, and will be known as The West Tennessee War Eagles. Ken Williams is the General Manager for the team and is here today to introduce it to Union City Rotary.
Ken says they are bringing a program to Jackson that everyone in the area will be proud of on and off the field.
The War Eagles have been accepted to be the newest franchise in the Gridiron Developmental Football League. In their inaugural season, they are expected to be a force to be reckoned with within the league, projections say the team will be placed in the Southwest Division which looks to be very competitive and therefore give the team an opportunity to make a statement in their inaugural season.
Ken will be introducing the team, coaching staff, along with general information on the league itself. He will also outline a playoff picture of the upcoming 2010-11 season.

Next week, well it has only been two weeks, but Art and Mike will be at it again. Last time they took center stage, Michael Hagan was the recipient, this time from what I hear there will be four new Rotarians in the hot seat, so to speak. The names are withheld due to fear of non attendance of the ones taking the heat, one would think.
Art and Mike have the ability to make anyone, no matter how well you think you have covered your tracks, or something you might have done as a youngster, or it could be even something you think no one knows about, something you have forgotten or would like to have forgotten, feel about two feet tall when they call you to the front of the room to be roasted, or in many cases chastised. One would have to wonder where they come up with the material, but, they always do and everyone in the audience enjoys the program, except maybe the ones standing in front of the laughter.
None the less, as Past District Governor Glen Vanderford said on his last visit, Union City Rotary always has fun, so don’t miss next weeks meeting or you will miss out on some of that fun.
Last Week, President Gary Houston presented new member Dr. Paul Neives with the Rotary Membership Package, along with challenges issued to all new members.
Then it was on to Discovery Park of America. Larry Snider, public relations and marketing manager for the park, had a power point presentation, along with an up-date of happenings at the present for the project.
Larry described the venue of the park as "World Class". He used his picture presentation showing Rotarians the status of the park, the changes in architecture of the Discovery Center, a 100,000 square foot building which will house 62,000 square feet of exhibits which will focus on nature, history, art, and science. He said "if there is one thing that I want you to remember from today’s discussion is the word INCREDIBLE, because that is the description I’ve found for what Discovery Park is going to be".
He said the fifty acre sight will have many many fantastic things, such as a working Grist Mill, which has already been purchased, along with a Stearman PT-17 Plane, which it’s likeness was used here in Obion County to train pilots during WWII, the plane will be on exhibit in Discovery Center.
He reported that there were more than 250 volunteers involved in the project, on various committees from Union City , Obion county, Weakley County, and throughout West TN.
Larry presented images of the park’s water area, which will feature numerous bridges and gardens, along with a historic Farm Era and Town Center which will feature artifacts from the 1800’s and early 1900’s. He also described the Simulator which will simulate Earthquakes, Tornados, and more.
He described the entire park as being an educational site, for young and old.
He said the new construction is planned to begin very soon with completion in late 2012.
