District Governor International President
Jim Springer Ray Klinginsmith
Columbia, Tennessee Kirksville, Missouri
Today, we all remember our junior year in high school, this was the time in our lives when things really began to happen. Most of us turned 16 during this period, and that meant we got that drivers license we had been waiting for most of our lives. This meant our parents didn’t have to chauffeur us to activities or hang around to take us home afterward. It meant we could borrow the family vehicle or maybe we were lucky enough to have our own, we could cruise with our buddies or go on a date with that special girl without chaperones. We were also approaching that special year when we were top-dogs in school, by being a member of the "Senior Class" and were not looked down upon by the Senior Class Now Removed.BUT, what if someone came to you during that year and said, we would like to send you on a trip of a lifetime. How would you like an all expense paid trip to Europe, and all you are required to do is meet certain criteria and do a small amount of studying to familiarize yourself with the different currencies and cultures of the countries we plan to send you to!
This is what happened to the group of seniors here today, they represent the three high schools in our county, and are here to share their experiences while exploring Europe from June 15 through June 27 of this year.
The group consists of Jacob Cleaver, So. Fulton, Trey Maddox, Chase Bowling, Jasmine Davis, Lakevius Turner, Kassadie Mullins, Megan Hickman, Cameryn Fishel, UCHS, and Alton Alexander of OCCHS. They were chaperoned by Joanna Weisner, English Teacher, UCHS, and her husband Clark, who are also with us today.

Last Week,
it was UTM Skyhawk Football, as that team’s Head Football Coach Jason Simpson visited and left us with an up-beat outlook for the season, which opens tomorrow in Knoxville.
Coach Simpson was introduced by President Elect and this years’s "Pride of Obion County" Recipient, Al Creswell.
Coach Simpson took the podium and spent a few moments reminiscing the past five years at the helm of the UTM program, saying that our own Randy Barnes has been of great help during that time, allowing him to do his job and that is coaching a football team.
He said "when you have something somebody wants, it causes a hardship, and this has happened to the program at Martin, we lost four coaches after the 2009 season". He mentioned the 20-11 record in the conference the last 4 years, saying the program is definitely going in the right direction, but losses in the coaches spots and defensive line positions to other schools puts the team in a position that he had rather not be in.
The three new coaches were a topic he spent a few minutes discussing, naming them, their responsibilities, their experiences, where they had coached in the past and was very excited about all of them.
"I’m a little surprised and a little disappointed with the pre-season standings, the Skyhawks were picked pre-season 6th in the OVC, this is the lowest pre-season ranking in the past 4 years, but the team only has 1 all-conference player returning this year, and when you take that into consideration, it is somewhat understandable" he said.
He mentioned the team is very young offensively, with 16 new players on offence. There are 90 players in camp, and of those 90, 44 are offensive players and 16 have never put on a Skyhawk uniform. He described the recruits who have come on campus this year. He promised a very exciting 2010 season, by example, the opening game in Knoxville tomorrow.
