Today, Chris Sanders, a former Professional Football Player with the Tennessee Titans is in town with The Baptist Men’s Conference, and will be our guest speaker for the noon program.
Chris is a former All American football wide receiver who was a multi-sport athlete at Ohio State University before playing seven seasons in the NFL. At Ohio State he was a member of the track and field team from 1992 to 1994, where he set the school record in the indoor long jump. That record still stands today. He was also a member of two relay teams that also set Ohio State records.
On the Ohio State football team Sanders was three-year starter at the flanker position. He had 71 career receptions for 1,120 total yards, and was such a strong team contributor that for two years he kept future Biletnikoff-winner Terry Glenn on the second team.
Sanders was selected in the third round by the Houston Oilers in the 1995 Draft. He stayed with that organization for seven years.
In 2005, Sanders began coaching at Christ Presbyterian Academy, a private K-12 school located in Nashville. While there he worked as an assistant coach in both football and track. In 2008, he left CPA and began coaching the wide receivers position and the swim team at Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville.
Next week, Union City Baptist Memorial Hospital’s, Administrator and Chief Executive Officer, Brad Parsons will visits with an update on healthcare.
Brad became administrator and CEO of the local hospital in August 2010. He began his career with Baptist as a part of Baptist Golden Triangle’s leadership team in 2008 as an assistant administrator. He supervised the hospital’s radiology, laboratory, rehabilitation services, behavioral health, oncology, material management, hospice and ambulance services. Before coming to Baptist, Parsons served as assistant vice president Decatur General hospital in Decatur, Alabama. He was responsible for various hospital support services including plant operations, environmental services, food services, security and all construction projects. Prior to that, Parsons worked with the Valencia Group, a revenue-cycle management consulting firm in Birmingham Alabama.
A native of Birmingham, Parsons earned a bachelor of science degree from Birmingham Southern College and master of science degrees in both hospital administration and business administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Last week, Global Economy was the topic of a presentation given by Dr. Thomas Payne, Professor of Accounting, Finance, Economics and Political Science at UTM.
Dr. Payne used a power point presentation, to illustrate some astounding facts and some scary predictions. For instance, he displayed a photo of earth from 30,000 miles out in space, dramatizing a flat world, and used the flat world concept to describe the economy today. Along that line, he described the economy in several countries such as Korea, and others which are very economically flat. In other countries, such as China, he described the economy as growing at a fast rate, using a picture of a 60 mile long traffic jam in Beijing to illustrate the fast growing automobile population in that country.
He mentioned another problem which is now beginning to hurt the economy, "Robot Automation", saying large companies are depending more and more on this type of production, therefore the job market, which once depended on human labor to do the jobs, now have robots doing them, and as the labor force is growing, the jobs are disappearing. Service jobs, however are on the rise. He encouraged everyone to keep your children in school, or high tech vocational schools, in order to be competitive in the job market as they become adults.
He said "another factor having a down force on the economy, is the fact that more and more people are asking for handouts". He brought up the quote from the late President John F. Kennedy, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what can you do for your country" using this to describe the handout attitude worldwide.
Other factors he mentioned is the rate in which baby boomers are retiring, and the fact that large and small companies set up retirement plans for their workers, now these people are eligible for this retirement and there is not enough work force to pay into the plan to keep it solvent.
He left us with a bit of an up-swing prediction, mentioning that China is in an economy which is growing and the citizens of that country are beginning to spend lots of money, therefore they will have to expand their imports dramatically worldwide.
