Next week, Thursday March 24 is Ladies Night for our club, and a time to show that special lady in our lives a little appreciation, whether it be a wife, girlfriend or just a special friend.
So as it stands right now, there will be no meeting of Union City Rotary Friday, March 25, however stay tuned, for developments from our District Governor’s Office, and/or forced changes in schedules.
Japan Disaster; Rotarians are being asked to give thoughtful consideration to helping the people of Japan survive and recover from this unimaginable situation.
There are different ways to give, one being a fund set up by The Rotary Foundation, it is The Rotary Japan and Pacific Islands Disaster Recovery Fund, which will support recovery projects in the affected areas and can be found on the Rotary International web site.
Another is the Shelterbox. ShelterBox responds instantly to natural and man-made disasters by delivering boxes of aid to those who are most in need. This box contains a tent for 10 people, cooker, blankets, water purification material, tool kit and other items needed to live in the days immediately following a disaster. This site can be reached at www.shelterbox.org.
Last week, Due to the Distinguished Speaker Banquet on Thursday night, we had no meeting. Or did we?
Due to explicit demands made by our District Governor concerning our club’s membership roster, President Houston and our Board decided they needed to call Rotarians together in order to make some important decisions concerning Union City Rotary. The following message from our President explains.
Your Rotary Board was very pleased with the number of Union City Rotarians who attended Friday’s March Rotary called business meeting. Nearly ninety Rotarians were present. The meeting began with my opening statement sequencing the events that had led up to Friday’s called meeting. This statement included the discussion which initially started in September when District governor Jim Springer questioned the Union City Rotary Board regarding our club’s membership practices. Following my remarks, President-elect Al Creswell and Immediate Past President Randy Barnes addressed the club. Afterwards, several Union City Rotarians spoke with statements or questions to the Board. The meeting concluded with Fred Wilkinson’s motion that the Union City rotary Club continue with our club’s current practice of membership guidelines which are consistent with the policies established by Rotary International. The motion was seconded by Clay Woods and unanimously approved by voice vote of the club’s Rotarians. The meeting adjourned at 1:15 P.M.
"On behalf of the Union City Rotary Board, I want to express my appreciation to the club for your support of the Board of Directors. Your motion and unanimous vote affirmed the direction the board is taking in response to the District Governor’s position."
