Dr. Pete Blanton and Steve Corley were officially brought into the club, bringing the total to 14 new members in the last 10 months. Along with these new members being sworn in, President Houston announced the board’s approval of Bob Carpenter as being put before the club as new member number 15.
After the ceremony, Randy Barnes took the floor, reminding members to be thinking about The Annual Rotary Relays. He said he would be contacting members and asked them to check the U.C. Rotary website (www.unioncityrotary.org) for updated assignments.
Roger Williams brought members up-to-date on the Rotary Scholarship Process, announcing the committee would be doing interviews April 19th & 20th at the Commercial Bank Board Room.
The Featured Speaker of the day was Thomas Hyde of Management Recruiters, an international executive recruiting firm.
Tom was very sympathetic with the situation our community and surrounding area is facing right now with the Goodyear announcement.
He brought along a PowerPoint Presentation demonstrating his suggested ways of attacking the situation, saying "Identify Your Assets", pointing out the many strong points the area has as far as attracting new industry. He mentioned the excellent timing of the I-69 project, Airport Expansion, Cates Landing project, along with several other strong points the area possesses, such as the strong Agriculture Industry the area enjoys, and the many by-products which come from the large acreage of soybeans, corn, and cotton grown in the area. He also mentioned the fact that the area possesses a very strong knowledge of the rubber industry and various facilities which we could recruit who need that knowledge.
Amy (Davis) McAdoo accompanied Tom last week. Tom was very complimentary of Amy, saying she probably had as much knowledge about recruiting new industry as anyone in the nation, also saying, she has put together several options toward these recruiting situations on their linkedin website.
