Friday, September 15, 2006 - Fall Fest Preview

2006 Fall Fest Preview From Robin Wood & Glenda Chrisp

Today, Rotarians get the low-down on Fall Fest 2006 from board members Robin Wood and Glenda Chrisp.
After their talk, Mike Cox will speak briefly about the Community Concerts Association.
Fall Fest has become one of Obion County’s most anticipated annual events. Fall Fest started on Labor Day with the 20th Annual Goodyear Car Show and jumps into full gear today, with the start of the Tennis Tournament. Other highlights include the Appraisal Fair, Chili Cookoff, Miss Fall Fest Tennessee Beauty Pageant, BBQ Cookoff, Commercial Bank Kid’s Day, Talent Contest, Airport Extravaganza, Backlawn Blues concert at the library, Pride of Obion County Luncheon, Chalk-Art Contest, Musicfest, Steve Whitten Concert and Magnificent Imposters Contest. Fall Fest ’06 will conclude a week from tomorrow night with the Buddy Jewell concert.
     Welcome Robin and Glenda!

Dr. Bob Cameron with New Birth Control Measures

Next Week, Rotarian Dr. Bob Cameron will talk to Rotarians about a new birth control method, called Essure, which may take some pressure off the guys to undergo a vasectomy. Unlike tubal ligation and vasectomy, there are no incisions or punctures to the body. Essure takes about 35 minutes and provides birth control without hormones.
Like the commercial says, “It’s a new day!”
Dr. Cameron will also talk about a new Cervical Cancer/HPV vaccine. Human Papilloma Virus is the most prevalent sexually transmitted infection in the world. Dr. Cameron will also report on an exciting new vaccine that treats Shingles—a dreaded disease that features an outbreak of rashes and blisters on the skin and is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.
Rotarians are never too old to learn some new tricks—see you Next Friday for Dr. Bob’s talk!

Rebel Football Report from Coach Darren Bowling

Last week, Obion County Central football coach Darren Bowling made his annual visit to Rotary to preview the new football season for his Rebels.
After speaking to Rotary, Coach Bowling and the Rebels went out and promptly defeated Gibson County, 40-0, to improve their record to 2-1.
It’s homecoming tonight for the Rebels, who entertain Dyer County in a key Region 7-AAA matchup in Troy.
Coach Bowling started his talk by thanking Rotary for its many contributions to the community—especially to the youth of the community.
With new county Director of Schools, David Huss in attendance, Coach Bowling spoke of the excitement he and other faculty members and students had in anticipation of the opening of the new Obion County Central High School in about a month.
Coach Bowling turned his attention to football and enticed Rotarians into a quick reflex-testing exercise. He then introduced his senior football players, including Cameron Bailey, Adam Battles, Nathan Brown, Zach Clouse, Jimmy Crackle, Matt Craddock, Orien Fox, Brian Fox, Jacob Fulbright, Garrett Grady, Mark Grooms, Savion Hayslett, Steven Weaks, Robert White and Justin Young.
Assistant coach Tony Lester was also part of the Rebel delegation, along with OCCHS senior cheerleaders and their sponsors.
Coach Bowling talked about how tough Region 7-AAA was but vowed to match is talent at OCCHS with that on any team in the league.
Good luck to the Rebels in 2006!
